NEW BOOKS

I got the boys new books the other day. They are always so pleased to have new books and for that, I am glad because I really want them to grow up to be readers. I know I haven't been updating the blog as much but we haven't been neglecting our homeschooling. We still have lessons and stuff but most of all, I want my boys to bond with their dad as much as they can while he is still here. I think that is the most important thing of all, don't you agree?

MORE BOOKS

New books for the boys! Again, I got these from my favorite bookstore of all time, Booksale! Flip and Flop talks about being brothers, making new friends and playing together. The illustrations are creatively done and I love the story of how the brothers got together in the end. I'm a Big Brother is about responsibility, what happens when a new baby is in the house and how to take care of a younger sibling. It's also an easy read which is okay for Nikki. On the Moon talks about science, outer space, and the moon. It also has rhyming words which will help Nikki in phonics.
We already read these books several times. I'm happy that Nikki enjoys reading or listening to me read to him. We might pass by Booksale again later for more great books! =D

BOOK/TOY

I got Ethan this book at Alabang Town Center. I was looking for a present for a baby shower and when I saw this book I thought it was so cute! Not only does it have an adorable stuffed bear, it also has a secret drawer that holds some puzzle pieces! How neat is that? And the best part? Everything only cost me P95!! How could I not buy it, right? Ethan loves the puzzle and he tried to do it by himself but in the end, would ask me for help. Nikki enjoyed the story was a bit concerned about Miss Honey. I think the teddy is adorable. Anyway, really is a win-win for everyone!

Here's the secret drawer where the puzzle is!

WRITE AND WIPE

Ethan really loves to doodle a lot and I try to give him scratch papers so he won't be wasteful. I also bought him a magic slate and those magnetic boards and he really loves those. When I saw these write and wipe books, I thought that they would be great for Ethan because he is a kinesthetic learner. So I thought that it would be nice for him to doodle and learn at the same time. I found these books at Toy Kingdom and they are less than P200 each which is quite reasonable for me. When I showed the books to Ethan, sure enough, he wanted to write on them immediately. So, we went to Auntie Anne's where I could get a pretzel and they could doodle for a few minutes. Even Nikki enjoyed writing in the book. When he saw a photo of the pretzel, he exclaimed, "Mommy! This book also has a pretzel like the one you have!" So cute. =D

Ethan loves numbers.

Nikki answers the "word" book.

BOOKS

More books for the boys...

This is a nice book. It teaches the boys that a "home" can be various things for different creatures. Easy read with rhyming so Nikki enjoys reading this.

I noticed that Ethan is very fond of bugs so I got him this book. Although he cannot read yet, I thought it would be nice for him to see the different kinds of insects. True enough, he flipped through the pages and exclaimed at the bugs that he already knew. Nikki and I just read the captions of the photos so he would ba familiar with the other insects not commonly seen here.

This one is an easy book for Nikki. But I bought it because of the lesson. It's the story of a dog who did not want to get a haircut because he thought he looked "funny" after he did. He became too self-conscious and did not want to meet his friends because "they are going to laugh". But he decided to sport a "cool" look and his dog friends loved it. In the end, the dog loved his new haircut. Teaches a lot about self-image.

Coincidentally, my sis bought this book for Nikki. So now, Nikki has another "hair book". We can never go wrong with a Seuss book. =D

BOOKS

Here are some more books for Nikki:

This book was given by their grandmother (my mother-in-law). The illustrations were really good but personally, I think the story is a bit morbid. It talks a lot about the old lady dying. =P

This one is a funny story and it talks about friendship, bullying, accepting oneself, and being creative. It's pretty easy to read but I read this to Nikki the first time. He loved it. =D This book cost only P25. Cool, huh.

My sister bought this book. We grew up wth Dr. Seuss books so I suppose she wanted Nikki to have the same experience.

BOOKS FOR ETHAN

I bought these books for Ethan. Since he loves books that he could play with (interactive), I thought that these would be great for him. If you look closely there are "wheels" on the right side of the books that you can turn. Really wonderful. And he does that while I sing the songs. =D Neat huh. And the best part? It only costs P54.75 each!! Bought these cute books at SM.

BOOKS

These are the books we are currently reading right now. I bought all of these from Booksale, one of my favorite bookstores. =D

I got this book for Ethan because he is a kinesthetic learner. He really loves books that he could touch and flip and smell. And he also loves vehicles so this book was a hit with him. Nikki liked this also because of the story. =D

Yes, this book has tires! How cute is that? It's a book and a toy. Ethan loves playing with it and looking at the many vehicles for construction.

This one is such a creative book, with traffic lights. The text was a bit lengthy but I'm sure years from now, the boys will still appreciate this book. I love the traffic lights!! =D

Nikki found this book to be so interesting after i taught him how to scratch and sniff. He however refused to sniff the log because according to him, it was "baho" (smelled bad). It was scandalwood and I think he found the scent too strong so he said that. But he likes the smell of the flowers and of course, his favorite, mint. After he sniffed that, he said, "Mommy, it smells like Mentos!" =D

HOW COOL IS THIS BOOK?

I found this book at a secondhand bookstore. It was only priced at P65! I really love it because I think it's very creative. Even Nikki enjoys reading this book. I wish most kids books were this interesting. Not only is it cute, it also teaches rhyming words. Love love love it!

Yummy-looking book!! =D

IDENTIFYING OBJECTS

Although Ethan likes to look at books, he still cannot read. So, what I do is teach him the objects in the pages so he'll still be interested. Most of his picture word books are in Manila but I found my old picture word book and that was what we studied the other day. Unlike before, Ethan is beginning to repeat the words I am telling him now. A few months ago, when I would ask him to say a certain word, he would not mind me and just turn the page. At least now, he's beginning to repeat the words. I'm happy with that. =D

Here are a couple of pages in the book.

Close-up of a page.

MORE ART IDEAS

Here is Ethan checking out the book: Fun to Make and Do. He loves doing art works and when he saw this book, he got it and browsed through it, looking for something that would catch his interest. =D

ETHAN'S NEW BOOK

I got this book for Ethan. He has this tendency to doodle in Nikki's workbooks which irritates Nikki and makes the workbooks messy. With this book, he could doodle and scribble as much as he can and just wipe them away. He had this book for a week now and he brings it with him everywhere he goes. He just loves it a lot. This book cost P60 and that's a pretty good price, if you ask me. I plan to get him several more Write and Wipe books. Hopefully, this will allow him to write more freely and learn more on his own. And maybe this will curb his tendency to write in Nikki's workbooks. =D

Here's Ethan, identifying the things on the page. Lately, he's been obsessed with coconut trees and banana trees so this page is his favorite. His latest project is trying his best to draw a coconut tree.

A couple of pages. Nikki answered the maze without any problems at all. =D

BOOKS THIS WEEK

These are the books we are reading this week. Nikki seems to love The Best Nest from last week so we continue to read that as well. Again, these books were previously owned by my siblings and me.
